Snowshoeing
For his birthday, I got my hubby a pair of snowshoes! We took them on a trial run that day and with fresh powder on the ground--it was perfect! We went up Big Cottonwood Canyon (avoiding all the avalanche areas!) towards Dog Lake. The weather was perfect! The sun was out and it had snowed for a few days before. We didn't get all the way to the lake before it clouded over and started getting a little colder, but there were beautiful views along the way!

Spiral Jetty, Salt Lake, UT
On New Year's Eve we said goodbye to 2011 while watching the sun set over the Spiral Jetty. Although it was mostly underwater (it comes and goes with the tide level)--it was still a beautiful place!
This is not snow--it's salt foam!
Goodbye 2011!

It's a bird, it's a plane...
My husband and I love the movie Up and enjoyed watching the floating lanterns in Tangled, so it comes as no surprise that when we heard there would be hot air balloons... we had to go and check them out!
Up, Up, and Away!
I didn't realize how quickly the balloons could fill with air! As soon as the balloon had filled, they lit the fire and lifted it off the ground! The whole process took maybe 15 minutes!
This pig had a little fire under his belly! (haha) He was the first to get into the air!
It's amazing to me that a little fire can keep an entire balloon, a basket, and at least 3 people high in the air! I'm still not sure if I'd like to brave a basket ride... but it would be fun!
As the sun finally peaked from behind the mountains, it lit up the sky and the balloons! It turned out to be a beautiful day!
Up, Up, and Away!

I often go walking...
My husband and I have been going on a lot of nature walks lately, we want to be sure to see the fall colors before the snow begins to cover them up! Here are a few photos from two recent walks. We got a new computer and therefore new programs to deal with and I'm not sure if I shrunk these photos down too far. We'll see how it goes!

The Gardens
We've been spending a lot of time at the Thanksgiving Point Gardens. Every time we go, we see something different (see tulips in the heading above for a few from the Tulip Festival)! Some just stand above the crowd!

All the Animals
We've seen a lot of animals lately. We've gone to the Zoo, Thanksgiving Point Farms, and Yellowstone.
